Mozilla Firefox Shares 24 New Logos It’s Considering For Major Redesign

Mozilla Firefox is getting not just one, but a whole bunch of facelifts, because it isn’t simply a browser anymore.

On Monday, the company’s creative director, Tim Murray, and senior director of Firefox User Experience, Madhava Enros, announced via a blog post that the brand needed “evolving.”

“Say ‘Firefox’ and most people think of a web browser on their laptop or phone, period… there’s more to the story now, and our branding needs to evolve.”

A redesign has been in talks for awhile now, but the company isn’t just getting one new logo—it’s expanding with 11 fresh ones under a revamped “masterbrand” mark.

Mozilla points out that the icons are still works in progress, so it’s unleashed two “systems,” each containing 12 logos, in hopes of hearing which aesthetic users prefer.

Each set includes a primary logo, along with 11 auxiliary ones to represent Firefox’s new apps and services. System One’s umbrella logo is vastly different from the version you’re used to—it’s a geometric icon depicting the head of a fox.

The company’s general browser will be represented by a refreshed version of the original Mozilla Firefox logo, and now comes in various colors, with two other variants symbolizing ‘Developer Edition’ and ‘Firefox Nightly’.

“Still in the works are explorations of typography, graphic patterns, motion, naming, events, partnerships, and other elements of the system that, used together with consistency in the product, will form the total brand experience.”

At the end of the day, Murray and Enros are keen to know if these sets of logos retain the spirit of Firefox. If all goes well, the new identity will roll out “over the next few months.”
