In celebration of its Women Galore Festival in May, independent Dallas-based bookstore The Wild Detectives has launch its ‘Shequel’ campaign that imagines the male leads of classic novels as women.
With help from media company Dieste, famous characters such as ‘Dracula’ becomes ‘Draculess’, the ‘Invisible Man’ transforms into the ‘Invisible Woman’, ‘Dorian Gray’ morphs into ‘Doris Gray’, and more.
Dieste’s CCO Ciro Sarmiento explained that inspiration came from exploring further into classic literature, and realizing that there was a lack of strong female leads.
The campaign includes a website, social videos, as well as a full version of Around The World in 80 Dayspublished and recast with a lady lead, which will be available at The Wild Detectives during the festival.
