The Lesser-Known Driving Force Behind FGM Worldwide
You might be aware that female genital mutilation (FGM) is a human rights violation, but did you know that it’s also a profitable moneymaking scheme?
In this eye-catching ad campaign titled ‘The Price Of FGM’, creative director Paul Gregson and artist Suzanna Scott have used the innocuous coin pouch to shed light on the lesser-known driving force behind the problem of FGM globally: money.
Jono Flannery, creative director behind the ads’ copy, writes, “Doctors in many countries sadly encourage the ‘cut’ in order to supplement their low income. But for the girl, it comes at a much higher price, her physical and mental health, and maybe even her life. Visit 28toomany.org for more information.”
28toomany is a registered charity in England and Wales dedicated towards fighting to end FGM around the world.
